Northeast Nebraska Community
Action Partnership to Host a
Fill the May Basket Personal
Care Item Drive
Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership, formerly Goldenrod Hills,
is hosting a Fill the May Basket drive
as part of National Community Action Month. Held annually in May, National
Community Action Month highlights Community Action Agencies' work helping millions of families and
individuals escape poverty and achieve economic stability each year.
The Fill the May Basket drive will be aimed at collecting personal care
items including soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, toilet
paper, diapers, feminine hygiene products and laundry detergent.
Families come into our offices because they are having a hard time making
ends meet. Personal care items are far down the list of necessities when you
are having a hard time paying for food and keeping up with your bills each
month. Yet personal care items are essential for both health and employment
purposes. For these reasons, we are asking businesses and community
members to donate personal care items to our food pantry. Donations
may be made by placing items in the boxes in area businesses and churches
around Pender throughout the month of May or by dropping items off at our
office. Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership has been
serving the area since 1966 with programs and services that strive to meet
the needs of the communities in our service area and help families become
self sufficient. For more information, please contact Amy Munderloh at (402)

About us: Northeast Nebraska
Community Action Partnership (NENCAP), Inc. is a private, non-profit
headquartered in Pender, Nebraska. The agency was chartered in 1966 as the
Thurston County Community Action Council in Macy, Nebraska under the
provisions of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. In 1967, the office moved from
Macy to Walthill, NE. The first three programs the agency administered
were Head Start, Commodities Supplemental Food Assistance and
Weatherization. As the service area grew, the central offices were relocated
to Wisner, Nebraska in 1987. In the next 25 years, the agency grew into four
buildings on main street in Wisner. A goal for the agency was to
secure a building large enough for all staff to be in one building. In March
of 2012 the agency was able to achieve its goal after the Pender Hospital
moved into a new facility in January 2012. The agency then moved into the
Pender Hospital building so all staff could be in one building.
In March of 2012, the agency also changed its name from Goldenrod Hills
Community Action, Inc. to Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership,
Inc. The change in the name is a part of an ongoing national initiative to
highlight anti-poverty efforts underway at Community Action Agencies across
the country. The initiative, spearheaded by the national office of the
Community Action Partnership, is designed to increase awareness of Community
Action-America's poverty fighting network.
NENCAP serves an income-eligible population in a 14-county area of Northeast
Nebraska, including the counties of Antelope, Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Dakota,
Dixon, Dodge, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Stanton, Thurston, Washington and
Wayne.
